ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday reserved its judgment over appeals filed against ban on government jobs in the Punjab.
The three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan heard the case and reserved verdict after completion of arguments.
In 2012, the provincial government had banned government jobs to students who get their degrees from technical institutions, which were not registered with the Higher Education Commission (HEC). The students of such institutions had filed appeals in the top court against the Punjab government’s decision. During the course of proceedings, Punjab Additional Advocate General Mudassir Abbasi contended that the Punjab government issued advertisements for recruitment in different institutions in 2012. He said that after receiving applications it was informed that technical institutes which were open in houses in every city were not registered with the HEC. He said that the provincial government offered jobs to students who got their degrees from HEC recognised institutes only.
The counsel for petitioner Skills Development Authority told that the degrees awarded by institute were not fake, as they were responsible for verification of the degrees. Advocate Saddiq Khan Baloch counsel for four applicants Abid, Manzoor, Shoukat and Shafqat, argued that out of 36 districts of the province, only two districts technical institues students were given jobs. He said that his clients had obtained their degrees from Quaid-e-Azam University, Punjab University and Allama Iqbal Open University.
He pleaded the court to lift ban on jobs and dismiss the Punjab government’s decision and issue directives for jobs of their clients.
The court after hearing arguments reserved the verdict, which would be announced after few days.
