ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office Spokesperson Nafees Zakaria on Thursday warned of ‘appropriate action’ if India violates the Indus Water Treaty and said it is closely monitoring the situation – amid reports that New Delhi may revisit the key water sharing accord.
While condemning the LOC violations by India, the spokesperson said that Pakistan would reply it in a befitting manner. “Pakistan has always welcomed the reconciliatory efforts by India in the past,” he said.
“The CPEC project will not only benefit Pakistan but the whole region,” the Zakaria added. He also condemned the political manoeuvring of SAARC summit by India.
“The SAARC summit had been postponed eight times in the past due to India,” Zakaria said and added that the Indian attempts of diplomatically isolating Pakistan have failed miserably.
On Afghanistan, he said Pakistan hails the agreements between Afghan National Government and Hizb-e-Islami. “Pakistan wants peace in Afghanistan,” he said.
On Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statements on Balochistan, Nafees Zakaria said that the statements are proof of Indian interference in Pakistan.
