Mobile internet services have once again been suspended across Balochistan, including Quetta. The shutdown began on August 30 and will remain in effect until September 6. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued a formal notification on the provincial government’s request.
Authorities cited security threats as the reason for this latest suspension. However, the disruption has caused widespread problems for users. Students, freelancers, and online businesses are facing serious difficulties due to the lack of connectivity. Many users are also unable to access essential services.
Earlier, on August 6, internet services were also suspended in Balochistan. After a legal petition, the Balochistan High Court ordered restoration in Quetta within two hours on August 21. The court’s directive led to partial restoration in areas like Quetta, Chaman, and Pishin.
The High Court heard the case under a two-member bench led by Chief Justice Rozi Khan Bareech. The petition was filed by Consumer Society Chairman Khair Muhammad. The bench stressed that prolonged shutdowns impact public access to information and essential services.
Despite the court’s earlier intervention, internet services have again been restricted. Residents now worry about recurring shutdowns disrupting education, business, and communication. The provincial government has not shared specific details about the security threat prompting this action.
